About Us

Michigan Avenue Baptist Church has witnessed for Christ at Michigan Avenue for nearly 160 years and has a congregation of many families that have been members for three or more generations.

Our congregation is comprised of a blend of retirees, middle aged and young married people. Like so many churches located within cities, the neighborhood where the church is located has changed from a neighborhood of single-family homes to one where homes have been converted to apartments, foster care homes and businesses.

MABC offers a variety of Sunday school classes and activities for our range of age groups. We have an active ABY (American Baptist Youth) with a leader who has attended this church all her life.

There is an active Men’s Fellowship group that meets once a month for breakfast and to do some needed projects around the church.

We have a multi-denominational Women’s Bible Study that has been meeting on Monday nights since 2006. They have completed all of the Beth Moore studies and have most recently completed a study of Andrew Murray’s “Walking with God”.

We are a congregation that believes in the power of prayer. Each Sunday during our service, there is a time set aside for prayer requests for our people along with prayers for our friends and the needs of our community and county. We also have an active prayer chain for special prayer needs.

There is also a time set aside during the worship service for a children’s story, which the adults enjoy as much as the children. There is a children’s nursery for the little ones and an extended session for those in kindergarten through 4th grade.

If you would like to know more, we encourage you to join us for a Sunday service. We are a loving, open church in which all are welcome.
